LAGOS, Jan 1 (IANS) Nigerian police confirmed on Saturday that nine kidnapped people have regained their freedom during a raid by security forces in the country's north state of Kaduna.

Mohammed Jalige, a police spokesperson in Kaduna, said in a statement that security forces also killed one bandit and arrested two others during the raid on a notorious bandit camp in the Sabon-Birnin forest in the Igabi area of the state on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Jalige said eight of the rescued victims have been reunited with their families after undergoing medical checkups at a police medical facility, and the other one sustaining a bullet injury was rushed to a hospital in the city of Kaduna, the state capital.

The northern part of Nigeria has witnessed a series of attacks by gunmen in recent months, with many civilians killed or kidnapped.
