The Election Commission derecognises seven regional parties in some states -- Samata Party in Haryana, Shiv Sena in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the RJD in Manipur, NTR-Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) in Chandigarh, the United Minority Front in Assam and the Haryana Vikas Party in Haryana-- These will remain registered but unrecognised parties.

| 1/8/1964 | Jack ""Murph the Surf"" Murphy, 27, and a companion were arrested in Miami as suspects in the theft of $410,000 rare gems from the American Museum of Natural History in October of last year. The world's largest sapphire, the Star of India, and eight of the other 22 stolen gems were returned to New York in an attorney's coat pocket, having been recovered in two water-logged suede pouches from a Miami bus terminal locker with the help of a third suspect. The three described themselves as ""beach boys."" Murphy is a sometimes an aquatic clown, but mainly they were notorious jewel thieves. Murphy was also accused of pistol-whipping actress Eva Gabor and stealing jewels worth $50,000 from her a year ago. |

| 10/27/1947 | Indian Governments accepts King of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Harisingh's accession merging Jammu and Kashmir in India and sends its troops. Accession of Jammu and Kashmir was then officially announced. No. 12 Sqn was to initiate the remarkable feat of air-lifting the first Sikhs from Palam onto the rough and dusty Srinagar airstrip without planning or reconnaissance as the initial Indian response to the sizeable insurgent forces that were pouring across the border into Jammu and Kashmir. |
